James Hurd Warthen

James Hurd Warthen, Jr. 91, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2023 with his family at his side. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Warthen, Sr. and Hester Warthen, and brother, Brice Warthen, and sister, Mary Kate Whitaker. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Doris Warthen, his daughters Jimette Smith (Steve), Lynette MacDonald (Tim), and Annette Chuckran. He is also survived by his grandchildren Heather Lucas (Josh), Tristan MacDonald, Joshua Chuckran, Rebecca Chuckran, as well as 2 great-grandchildren.

Jim was born November 8, 1931, in Beaumont, TX. His family moved to Virginia where he where he grew up. He proudly served his country as a member of the US Air Force, stationed in Omaha, NE. It was during this time that he met Doris.

Jim graduated from University of Nebraska-Omaha. He became a Certified Public Accountant and moved his family to Houston. Jim worked for a number of companies in his long career including Arthur Anderson, Union Texas Petroleum, Aramco, and Allied Chemical. His career provided he and his family the opportunity of a lifetime to see much of the world. Jim retired in 1992. Many memories were created and friendships made during his long and productive career.

Jim loved spending time with his family, as well cooking, gardening and keeping his yard in pristine condition. In his later years he loved to take care of his kitties, grocery shop, read and keep up with current events, as well as watching his Astros. Jim was universally loved and adored by his family and friends.
A small gathering of family and friends will be held in remembrance. The family asks that any charitable contributions desired to be made in his behalf be made to The American Heart Association or Boys Town (Nebraska).
