In Loving Memory of Hans Slotboom
Photograph Contributed by Monique Slotboom
My husband and father to our girls, "Hans Slotboom" passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 9th, 2006. Hans started his career with Tapline back in 1963 and transferred to Aramco (Ras Tanura) in 1980 where he worked for the Marine Department until his retirement in 1990. Hans was a colleague and a good friend to many Tapliners and Aramcons and always had an open heart and door for those that needed a helping hand or listening ear.
The last few years were very difficult for Hans due to a neck hernia that caused a lot of physical problems but he always kept his spirits up and was always ready to start and finish one of the never ending projects here at the farm. For those who have seen the farm or who have been told, we can say that he was proud of his construction capabilities and how his beloved farm, 'The Stroehoeve", that he called home, took shape. Hans was a man of many talents and always liked to comment about the accomplishments that he had achieved together with Janny and his girls.
We will miss him and know that he will be missed by all that knew him.
Hans believed that:
"There is an old belief
that on some distant shore
far from despair and grief
old friends shall meet once more"
For all those who attended, sent flowers, letters or called we want to say thank you for your support, your personal stories about Hans and the kind words and affection that has given us strength over the last few days and which we will take with us in the coming months.
