Howard Copeland
Howard Copeland, Senior Staff School teacher, died Jan. 28 in Nariyah.
Copeland came to Saudi Arabia Aug. 7, 1954, and taught in the Senior Staff School at Abqaiq until Oct. 1, 1959, when he was assigned to Nariyah. He had been a member of the Abqaiq Players Group and also acted for a short time as Abqaiq correspondent of the Sun and Flare.
Copeland, who came to Saudi Arabia from Genesee, N.Y., where he had taught in the Genesee Central School, started his teaching career at the West Bloomfield-Union N.Y. School in 1951. He was graduated from Genesee State Teachers College with a bachelor of science degree in education. His elementary schooling had been in the Leicester grade and high school. He had also attended Syracuse University before transferring to Genesee State Teachers College.
Relatives surviving Copeland are his son, Graham, 10; his daughter Pirie, 8; his sons Blakie, 5, and Stuart 2, and his father Roy Copeland of Warsaw, N.Y.
Memorial services were held at 10 o'clock last Monday morning, Feb. 1, in the Abqaiq Theater.
