George Lemoin Crockett
George Lemoin Crockett, Crockett 85, passed away suddenly on Friday, February 21, 2014 at his home in Logan, Utah. He was born in Whitney, Idaho on October 29, 1928 to George Alvin and Christine Olsen Crockett. He married his college sweetheart Lavina Foutz in the Logan Temple Nov. 10, 1950.
George was a graduate of Preston High School, and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Math, Physics, and Chemistry from Utah State University. He attended Purdue, Stanford, and Oregon State University for his Master's Degree. He went on to earn a Doctorate in Education from Utah State University with post-doctoral work in meteorology in Costa Rica. George served for 20 years as a professor and Head of Science at the University of Northern Colorado. He was also a visiting Professor in Changhua, Taiwan, and the University of Northern Iowa. He then served as Head of Science at Robert College in Istanbul, Turkey. He also worked as Director of Meteorological Institute in Madrid, Spain and then in Saudi Arabia doing technical curriculum development for Aramco, after which he was Head of Math at Colegio Roosevelt in Lima, Peru.
George was active in the LDS Church, serving two stake missions in Preston, Idaho and Greeley, Colorado. He and his wife, Lavina, were also called to open the mission in the Republic of Turkey. Other church callings included: Branch President, Gospel Essentials, Choir Director, and Stake Dance Director. Favorite family memories were trips and outings, reading stories, and Dad's beautiful tenor voice. George was survived by his devoted wife, Lavina, his children, Christine Williams, Dave Crockett (Marion), Daryl Crockett, Claralyn Sant (Howard), Guy Crockett (Juliet), Joel Crockett, Jonathan Crockett (Adriana), Jesse Crockett (Rebecca), and Sabrina Rodriguez (Roberto), 33 grandchildren, and 27 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, George L. Crockett Jr., his sister, Zenna Beth Crockett, his parents, George Alvin and Christine Olsen Crockett, and a grandson, Spencer Millett.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, March 1, 2014, at 12 p.m., at the Whitney LDS Chapel, 1444 S. 1600 East Preston, Idaho. A viewing for family and friends will be from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the church in Whitney. Interment will be in the Whitney Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Webb Funeral Home in Preston.
