Edward E. Flynn
On March 31, 2022, Edward E. Flynn, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away at the age of 75. He was born in Cortland, NY on July 29, 1946, to Lois (Shaw) and Robert C. Flynn. On February 12, 1972, in Oxford, NY Ed married his wife, Sally (Race).
Ed was a graduate of Lansing Central School and the Sheffield School of Aeronautics. He served four years in the U. S. Air Force, primarily with NATO in Europe. Ed loved his time in the military and the opportunity it provided for meeting new people and having travel adventures, so when the opportunity to live and work overseas arose, he was quick to take it.
In 1977, Ed and Sally moved to Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, where Ed enjoyed a 22-year career with the SAUDI ARAMCO Aviation Department. During their time in Saudi the Flynn’s raised two daughters, made life-long friends and enjoyed sports, travel and year-round sunshine. Ed loved working outdoors, whether mowing the lawn or washing the car…often at the crack of dawn, and always whistling away. Ed will be remembered as having pitched for the Rag Tag’s men’s softball team and then going on to coach girls’ softball for many years. He also loved riding his bicycle around Dhahran every evening, and savoring the sweet smells of international cooking as they wafted through the air.
Upon retiring in 1999, Ed and Sally relocated to Estero, Florida. In his retirement, Ed worked part-time at The Home Depot and full-time at being the world’s best grandpa.
Ed is survived by his wife of 50 years, his daughters, Erin Flynn-Rovak of Greenwood Village, CO and Katy Quinones of Cape Coral, FL, his sons-in-law, Jason Rovak, Luis Quinones and Matthew Peppler, and his six grandchildren, Maya, Brennan, Devon and Amira Rovak, Kai Peppler-Flynn and Sienna Quinones.
