E. Curtis Brown
86, of Phoenix, AZ. E. Curtis Brown MD, son of Margaret and Preston T. Brown MD died unexpectedly, but peacefully, in his sleep Tuesday, December 27, 2016. His wife of 44 years, Pat, died two weeks earlier, following a major stroke. Curt was born in Iowa City, Iowa, Nov. 15, 1930. His parents brought Curt and brother Norman to Phoenix in 1933, where Preston Brown started his Ob/Gyn practice. Phoenix was idyllic then, a smaller, quieter town where everyone knew everyone and downtown was a bike ride or street car away! Curt attended Emerson/Kenilworth Schools, North High School class of '48. He attended Hamilton College and University of Colorado. He then attended U of Iowa College of Medicine, where he was a member of Nu Sig Medical Fraternity, and graduated second in his 1955 class. At graduation he was inducted into AOA for scholastic achievement. He was known for his intellect and quiet calmness, was an avid reader and accomplished golfer while a member of Phoenix Country Club. He married Harriet Hoag (Haskell) and together they had three children, Chris, Cindi and Suzie. Curt completed his internship in Fresno and served in the USAF as a flight surgeon at Davis Monthan AFB and then returned to Iowa City where he completed a dermatology residency. In 1962, the family returned to Phoenix, where he established a successful practice. He later married Pat (McCracken) and had a son, Scott. Pat, Curt and Scott went to Saudi Arabia Where Curt practiced dermatology with the Aramco Company for six years and traveled throughout the world during those years. After returning to Phoenix in 1987, Curt continued his practice until retirement in 1995. Pat and Curt then enjoyed several years living in the Rim Country but eventually came back to Phoenix. Curt is survived by children and grandchildren: Chris Brown and his wife Rhoda, their two sons Matthew and Bryan. Bryan and his wife Belen and their daughter, Curt's great granddaughter Maria. Cindi Aston and her husband Rollah and their sons Nik, Riky. Suzie Ford and her daughter Katie. And Scott Brown his wife Jenny and their daughter Ashlynn. Also survived by brothers and spouses, Norman (Joyce), Tom (Susie) and sister, Karen Swaine (Archie, deceased) and numerous nieces and nephews. A casual celebration of life for Pat and Curt will be held Sunday, Jan. 15th
