Dr. DeBoer, a former Superintendent of the ARAMCO Schools, passed away on Wednesday, April 24, at the Silverado Care Facility in Escondido, California.

Harland DeBoer was born in St Paul, Minnesota on February 8, 1926. Following his graduation from Pillsbury Military Academy in Owatonna, Minnesota in1944 he enlisted in the US Navy, serving in the Pacific during World War II.  After his discharge from the navy, he enrolled in Macalester College in St Paul and subsequently received his Bachelor Arts Degree. Harland received his Masters Degree in psychology from the University of Minnesota and obtained his PhD from the University of Southern California in 1970.  That same year he accepted a position with the ARAMCO Schools in Saudi Arabia, first as Psychologist and later as Superintendent.

During his career as a Psychologist he was also employed by school districts in several states which included Bloomington, Minnesota; Sioux City, Iowa; Magnolia District, Anaheim, California; Paramount, California; Fullerton, California; and University of La Verne, California.

In addition, Harland was associated with Florence Crittenton Services, (agency to help abused and neglected children and families) Olive Crest Group Homes (preventing child abuse), and ARC (Assn for Retarded Citizens).

In 1948 he was united in marriage in Owatonna to Virginia Elizabeth (Ochs) DeBoer.  They later divorced in 1995.  He is survived by four children from that marriage, daughters, Dr. Diane DeBoer, Irvine, California; Elizabeth DeBoer, Vista, California; Cynthia (John) Pugliaresi, So San Francisco; son Dr Mark (Edyta) DeBoer, Laguna Beach, California; seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. He is also survived by sister, Dr. Hermine DeBoer (Richard) Makman, Kalispell, Montana; brothers, Dr. Glenn (Kathleen) DeBoer, Cleveland, Ohio; Dr. Laurence (Lisa) DeBoer, Billings, Montana and nine nieces and nephews.

Harland is also survived by Virginia Marie (Brown) Nelson-DeBoer, whom he married in 2001.
