Donald Leroy Westfahl Jr.
Born May 24, 1945, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Donald L. Westfahl Sr. and Letha Eileen Becker Westfahl, Donald Leroy Westfahl Jr. died July 3, 2015.
Don spent most of his formative years in Bakersfield, California. He attended Horace Mann Elementary School, Sierra Jr. High School and graduated from East Bakersfield High School. He received his degree from Bakersfield Jr. College attended and received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University Of California Santa Barbara, then returned to Bakersfield, attended California State University Bakersfield and received his Masters Degree in English. For a short while, Don taught elementary school in Bakersfield, California. Thereafter, he joined the U.S. Army, served loyally and was honorably discharged. He entered the Peace Corp., was trained and sent to Ouallam, Niger.
Don was an excellent English scholar and put to use his academic talents and skills for the remainder of his life. He was retained as an English teacher serving in Tabriz, Iran teaching technical English to Iranian Naval cadets. From Iran, he relocated to Tabuk, Saudi Arabia to teach technical English to Saudi Arabian Air Force cadets. He returned to San Francisco, California for two years and attended San Francisco State University. Returning to Saudi Arabia making his home in Riyad, Don assumed the position of English Professor at the King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals. He relocated to Al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia where his formidable English teaching resumeĀ“ brought him success through contracts with Aramco, KSA and other Saudi companies.
Don's life centered on teaching the English language. He spent nearly four decades dedicated to education. He saw much of the world returning to the United States to visit family only briefly and infrequently.
Don is survived by his father, Donald Leroy Westfahl Sr., his sister Patricia Lee Westfahl Read and son William Read, his brother Michael J. Westfahl and wife Melinda S. McKean Westfahl and Michael's daughters Sandra M. Westfahl, Danessa D. Westfahl and her daughter Madelynn D. Monroe, Karrah L. Westfahl and her sons Samuel M. Campbell, Elijah Campbell and Lucas Campbell and his beloved companion of fifteen years Ghanem Al-Malki.
