Dolores Sheeran Scherrer

Dolores Sheeran Scherrer, 83, of Pearland, TX passed away peacefully in her home with her daughter Tina, at her bedside.  Dolores left this world to be reunited with her husband of 54 years, Philip Francis Scherrer, who passed away on January 30, 2013. She will be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother, and as a demure, well-mannered, considerate lady.

Dolores was born and raised in Detroit, MI. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.A. in French, in 1952 from Saint Mary's College, Notre Dame, IN. In 1955, she joined Saudi Aramco in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia as a French teacher. Dolores met her husband Phil in 1955 in Dhahran at a Halloween party.  After a few years of courtship, they married on December 31, 1958 in Saint Peter's Basilica in the Vatican City in Rome, Italy. After focusing on raising her children as a homemaker, Dolores resumed her career as a Secretary from 1981 until her retirement in 1989.

Dolores was active in educating her children, serving as a Den Mother with the Cub Scouts and Brownies. She was an organizer for her sons' and husband's minor league and little league baseball teams. The Scherrer family lived in Dhahran from 1958 - 1960 and 1979 - 1989. They lived in Ras Tanura during the time period of 1960 - 1975. The family also lived in The Hague, Netherlands from 1970 - 1971 and again in 1973 - 1975. From 1975 - 1979, the family lived in Houston, TX. In 1989, Phil and Dolores retired from Saudi Aramco and moved to Bainbridge Island, WA. In 2003, they moved to Pearland, TX to be closer to their grandchildren.

She is survived by four children: Philip Scherrer and wife Cynthia, Tom Scherrer, Tina Zadow and husband Pat, Steve Scherrer and wife Carly, five grandchildren: Justin Scherrer and wife Christina, Kaitlin Zadow, Robert Zadow, Jarrett Zadow, and Lia Scherrer, and one great-grandson: Kellen Scherrer.

Friends are cordially invited to the visitation with the family on Thursday, February 14, 2013 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Jeter Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, 311 N. Friendswood Dr., Friendswood, TX  77546 (281)992-7200.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, February 15, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 6502 County Rd. 48, Manvel, Texas 77578 with Rev. Sean Garrity, C.S.B. officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Dickinson, TX.

In lieu of the usual remembrances, the family asks that you contribute to the Autism Society, www.autism-society.org, or the Houston Hospice, www.houstonhospice.org.
