Clyde Prechter
Mr. Prechter died Sunday, Nov. 7, at home. He was 93.
He was born Aug. 21, 1911, in Green Bay, Wis., to Adam J. and Margaret M. Prechter. He graduated from Purdue University in Indiana in 1935 with a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering. He married Alice Thorson on June 20, 1942. He attended military training college and while on active duty during World War II was deferred to work at Hercules Powder Company, where they produced dynamite. He worked for Hercules as assistant plant manager for 33 years. While living in Hercules, he was a scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts. He was later elected mayor of Hercules and able to get the company town incorporated. As mayor he was elected Chairman of the Contra Costa County Mayor's Conference. He also helped form the Association of Bay Area Governments that allowed the Bay Area cities to coordinate regional projects.
Following his retirement, he spent six months in Saudi Arabia as a consultant for ARAMCO. The following year he went to Columbia, South America as a consultant on a large chemical plant project. He and his wife purchased property in Nevada City in the late 1950s where they built their home when he retired. He was a life member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and a member of the Nevada City Lions Club. Since 1935 he enjoyed checking and investing in the stock market.
He is survived by his sons, Edward C. Prechter of Cedar Ridge, Terence K. Prechter and William C. Prechter, both of Nevada City; and daughter Juliana K. Prechter of Villa Park.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Alice J. Prechter.
