Brian Blakely
Aramco retiree Brian Blakely passed away on July 30, 2010, due to complications associated with cancer treatment side effects, with his wife Lisa and son Andrew at his bedside. He fought his illness with courage and dignity and always maintained a positive outlook, in spite of the nature of his disease.
Brian was born in September, 1950, in Glasgow, Scotland to James and Olwen Blakely. He emigrated with his family from Scotland to Toronto, Canada in 1952. In 1954, his family moved to New Jersey where he was raised and where he graduated from Glen Ridge High School in 1968. Brian attended college at the University of South Carolina and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1972.
Brian worked for Saudi Aramco in Ras Tanura from 1980 to 2003. The majority of his work career was with the Terminal Maintenance Department.
He enjoyed traveling, listening to music, reading, and was an avid fan of the Los Angeles Angels.
Brian is survived by his parents, Jim and Olwen Blakely; his loving wife Lisa; sons Jayme (Kristen), Chris (Janna), Andrew, and daughter Courtney; grandchildren Hayden, Emma, Hannah, and Abigail; his sister Carol Talley; and dog Layla.
Brian left behind a big empty space, but also a memory rich in fun and laughs. His entire family, as well as many long time friends, will miss him dearly.
No memorial service is planned. However, since Brian was a very active member of The Friends of the Cambria Library, any donations made to the organization in his memory would be appreciated.
