Betty C. Fried
Betty C. Fried, 69, of Lubbock was born March 27, 1947, in San Angelo to S. Earl and Mary Alice (Edwards) Garrett. She went to be with her Lord Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017, while vacationing in Florida. Betty graduated from Frenship High School in 1965 then earned a BS in with four majors from Texas Tech in 1975. She married Bruce Fried, M.D. on Feb. 19, 1977. In addition to living in Lubbock, the family also lived abroad in Saudi Arabia while Bruce worked for Aramco Oil, then in Germany and Kuwait while he served in the military. Returning to Lubbock in 2010, Betty resumed being an active member of the Adult Sunday School Department at First Baptist Church and the Texas Plains Chapter of the WBCCI (Airstream Club). Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Bruce; her daughter, Lauren Fried of Denver, CO; brothers, Grady Garrett of Longview and Ross Garrett of Lubbock; mother-in-law, Elsie Fried of Mena, AK; sister-in-law, Martha Martin of Norman, OK; brother-in-law, Vance Fried of Stillwater, OK; four nieces, two nephews; a host of cousins; a slew of close friends; and a horde of acquaintances. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017, at the First Baptist Church chapel of Lubbock with Chaplains William Merrifield and Ben Todd officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to The South Plains Food Bank, or to Sat-7 (a satellite mission ministry in the Middle East).
