Alvis Lee Dowell
Memorial services for Alvis Lee Dowell, age 78 of Hideaway, are scheduled for 3:00 PM Friday, January 10, 2014 in the Caudle-Rutledge Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jack Cox officiating.
Mr. Dowell was born December 10, 1935 in Golden, Texas the son of the late Thurman and Rosa Lee (Young) Dowell. He passed away Sunday, January 5, 2014 in a Tyler hospital. Mr. Dowell lived in Hideaway for the past 16 years. He was a member of the North Richland Hills Chamber of Commerce, President of the Dallas Jaycees, and also an active member of the Memphis, Tennessee Jaycees.
Mr. Dowell's career as a petroleum engineer included working in the oil fields of Saudi Arabia and in off shore drilling in the North Sea of Denmark.
In 1970 he was given the award from University of Corpus Christi as Distinguished Alumni. Mr. Dowell was a member of the 18 Hole Men, and the Hideaway Men's Golf Association. He was a member of the Lakeside Class at the Hideaway Community Church. His children and grandchildren were always of great importance to him and came first in his life when it came to coaching teams, attending sporting events, and supporting them whenever he could.
Mr. Dowell is survived by his wife of 55 years, Darlene Dowell of Hideaway; son, Travis Dowell (RT79) and wife Amy of Allen; daughters, Deborah Strecker of LaGrange, Darcus Evans (RT77) and husband John of Osburn, Idaho; brother, Henry Dowell and wife Linda of Golden; 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
