Under: Obituary

Alice Kayarian, a long time resident of Dutchess County, passed away Thursday, November 21, 2013 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. Her blue eyes, sweet smile, infectious laugh and wonderful sense of humor will be missed by everyone who knew her.

Born in Enderlin, ND, she was the youngest of 7 children. She was predeceased by her parents, Earl ("Casey") and Agnes as well as her 6 siblings.

After graduating Enderlin High School, she attended Valley City State Teachers College in Valley City, ND. For a time, she even taught in a one-room school house!

While working as a key punch operator for ARAMCO (Arabian American Oil Company), she met and married Gabriel Kayarian. He predeceased her in 1994.

While her children were growing up, she served as a Girl Scout Troop leader and a Cub Scout Den mother. She was active in the PTA.

A lover of animals, she was often seen walking her dog or feeding the birds. She thoroughly enjoyed watching a flock of turkeys cross the road to eat the corn she had put down or watching the great Blue Heron fish in the pond. As a past member of the Mid-Hudson Kennel Club, she often worked as a Steward at their dog shows. She was also a member of the Friendship Garden Club and was proud to have won a blue ribbon for her "Celebration" arrangement. An avid baker, no bake sale was complete without her delicious Swedish Coffee braid. As Alzheimer's disease began to take hold, she still enjoyed being with people, singing and dancing and going out to eat.

Alice is survived by her daughter Janet of Clinton Corners, her son James and his wife Susan of Raleigh, NC and her twin grandsons Stephen and Adam, of Raleigh, NC. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews scattered across the country.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 26, 2013, from 4 to 7 pm at Allen Funeral Home, 1605 Main St., Pleasant Valley, NY 12569.

Interment will be private.

Please consider a memorial donation to the Alzheimer's Association , 22 Jefferson Ste. 103, POK, NY 12601.
