Alice E. Rowan died on Thursday, August 9, 2012 at Underwood Memorial Hospital.

Born Alice Elizabeth Ramsey in Philadelphia, PA on October 16, 1919. Formerly of National Park, NJ and Port Charlotte, FL; Alice resided with her husband, John, in West Deptford, NJ.

She is survived by her loving husband, John E. Rowan. She is predeceased by her husband, Alexander Johnson her daughter, Alice Walsh, and son, Alexander, Jr., USCG. She is survived by five grandchildren, Patrick Walsh, Florence (Flossie) Gerst, Christine Powers, Alexander Johnson, Sueann McNeil, and ten great grandchildren. Also survived by two step-children and their spouses, Jack & Sara Rowan, Gayle & Barry Erickson, four step-grandchildren, and ten step-great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by Frederick Kramer, USN, who, in 1942 fought and died in the invasion of North Africa.

Alice led a full and busy life travelling the world. She was an active member of the National Park Board of Education. During WWII, she was a Leading Lady in the aircraft factory at the Philadelphia Navy Yard. In 1955, she worked for Aramco Oil Company in Saudi Arabia. Coming home, she settled in Port Charlotte, FL where she served as an active member of the Port Charlotte Yacht Club. She thoroughly enjoyed playing bridge, cruising anywhere and everywhere, and casino trips up until the time of her passing. She was a totally good person having friends everywhere she went. Relatives and friends may visit with her family on Sunday, August 12, 2012 from 2:00pm to 3:00pm at the McGuiness Funeral Home, 34 Hunter St., Woodbury, NJ. Interment will be private in Port Richmond, FL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Underwood Memorial Hospital Foundation, 509 Broad St., Woodbury, NJ 08096.
