Robert John Bitowft Sr., of Palm Coast, FL, died on April 8, 2017 at Florida Hospital in Daytona Beach Florida. Mr. Bitowft was born on December 30, 1932 in Brooklyn, NY, the son of Sylvester and Mae Elizabeth Bitowft. After graduating from Brooklyn Tech, Mr. Bitowft attended Georgia Tech, where he graduated in 1955 with a BS in Construction Management. After graduation he served in the Navy, and thereafter received a MBA from Loyola University, New Orleans, in 1965. Mr. Bitowft was a world traveler, and his life was full of unique experiences, including working on the Mercury Rocket program for NASA in Seattle, managing airplane engine technology for the General Electric Company in Amsterdam, constructing petroleum refining facilities in Kuwait for Aramco, brokering business transactions in Lebanon for KPMG, developing the Discovery Bay city outside of San Francisco, CA and many more. Mr. Bitowft was extremely social, sometimes controversial, with a great personality to match his well-rounded intelligence. As a retired Navy Reserve Officer he was called into Washington to help plan a hypothetical invasion of an unknown Middle Eastern nation. He was humbled to see that hypothetical invasion become a reality when the United States invaded Iraq. He had a love for architecture, real estate investments, international affairs, religion, boating, fitness and more. Mr. Bitowft is survived by his sister Carolynn Basile and husband Salvadore, of Hawley, PA, the mother of his children, Adele Robertson Bitowft of New Smyrna Beach, FL, his sons Robert Jr of Lake Tahoe, CA and Bruce of Racine, WI, daughter Elizabeth, New Smyrna Beach, FL and three grandchildren, Adrian, Santa Ana, CA, Lindsey, Tehachapi, CA and Sandra, Hoboken, NJ. A celebration of life ceremony will take place on Saturday April 16, 2017, 11 AM at the Marina Cove Club House, 110 Captain's Walk, Palm Coast, FL 32137.
