Ray Laroy Dyal

Ray Laroy Dyal, 82, of Hockley, Texas passed on from this life and onto his next adventure on November 14, 2021 at his home, with loved ones at his side.

\Ray was born in Houston, Texas on January 2, 1939 at Heights Hospital to James E. Dyal and Beth Marie Foster Dyal. He was welcomed to the family by his older brother, James D. Dyal, Sr., with whom he always shared a close relationship. That closeness extended to Ray’s sister-in-law, Ernestine G. Dyal.

After graduating from John H. Reagan High School in 1957, Ray joined the United States Military and proudly served in the US Army. He went on to attend the University of Houston and graduated in 1969 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. Ray was also a lifetime member of the University of Houston Alumni Cougar Connection. Being a Houston Cougar was one of his proudest titles. GO COOGS!

Adventure ran deep in Ray’s soul and that extended into his career, taking him all over the globe. He spent many years in Saudi Arabia, Greece, Turkey, Michigan, and Arizona to name a few, making lifelong friends and incredible memories. Those friends became his family and continued to be by his side until the end.

Ray worked in procurement for companies such as Fluor Oil & Gas and Aramco. But as hard as he worked, he also took time to enjoy what the world had to offer. Ray was generous with his time and happily shared with others. He was an avid reader and golf fan, spending many hours with a series of books or watching a good round of golf. And he never wanted to miss a UH football game, sending messages to anyone who he thought might want to catch a game. Ray truly took the time to appreciate the world around him, to experience all he could and share it with friends and family. Spending much of his career overseas meant much time away from his family. But that never stopped him from taking the time to make a long-distance call or send a card or gift. His brother James was always happy to get his calls and looked forward to their conversations. Ray would spend Christmases at home with his family and always thought of his great-nieces and great-nephews by finding fun and unique gifts to give. He found much happiness in sharing culture and experience with them. Ray also enjoyed spending time with friends and their families as well.

Ray was a fiercely independent man with an intelligent mind. His strong personality set him apart and gave him the courage to strive for and achieve great things. Ray lived a life full of so many things that most people will never experience. He saw the world through a different set of eyes than most and what he saw was the beauty and uniqueness that the world holds. Ray wasn’t put on this earth to sit quietly or act meekly. He was put here to be the biggest version of himself he could be. And he accomplished that goal with all the grace and personality he was gifted.

“The purpose of life is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience.” – Eleanor Roosevelt

Interment will be December 10, 2021, at 9:45am at the Houston National Cemetery. 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas, 77038. Lane 2.
