Fall 2021 Model Arab League Opportunities

2021 Youth Leadership Development Program / Model Arab League registration is open!

The National Council on U.S.-Arab Relations cordially invites students and instructors to participate in a Youth Leadership Development Program / Model Arab League conference this fall. The program is open to high school and university-level students. Model Arab League is an educational, role-playing exercise simulating meetings of the 22-member League of Arab States.

Each year thousands of students participate in Youth Leadership Development Programs / Model Arab Leagues across the United States and around the globe. Through the program, students develop valuable leadership skills from public speaking to critical thinking and writing, all while learning about the Middle East and the Arab region.

The National Council's Youth Leadership Development Program / Model Arab League helps students harness and practice empathy as they explore others' cultures, economies, societies, and systems of governance. For emerging leaders of tomorrow, taking part in Model Arab League broadens their horizons and stretches their imaginations.

Model Arab League returns for in-person conferences this fall!

In-person Youth Leadership Development Program / Model Arab League conferences will convene during the Fall 2021 semester at the discretion and under the rules of the host institution. If any in-person Model Arab League conferences become infeasible, at the discretion of the host institution they will be transitioned to online administration. For schools, teams, and individuals who would prefer to participate in Model Arab League online during the Fall 2021 semester, the Capital Area Regional MAL will convene virtually as an alternative conference option.

Students utilize parliamentary procedure during Youth Leadership Development Program / Model Arab League sessions. Understanding and utilizing basic rules of meetings helps to train future leaders how to consider viewpoints and make decisions in a fair, consistent, and effective manner.

Joining Model Arab League is easy!

Whether led by a faculty adviser or student leader(s), any size group of students may form a team and register online to receive a country assignment for a conference. As an added incentive, new teams' registration fees are waived for their entire first year!

Each group researches its assigned country's policies and positions on some of the most pressing issues facing the Arab region to be prepared to address the topics found on the Model Arab League Agenda. Teams also study and practice the Model Arab League rules of debate to understand how Model Arab League works.

The National Council's staff stands ready to answer questions and assist teams at every step of the process. Additionally, the Model Arab League website has a wealth of resources for research and conference preparation to assist students and faculty advisers.
