A LEARNING ENVIRONMENT

The Glenholme School

Serving students from around the world for 50 years, The Glenholme School is the premier coeducational, specialized boarding school for middle school and high school students, ages 10 to 18 at enrollment, and post-graduate/foundation year students, ages 18 to 21. The school’s comprehensive learning environment supports the success of young people with high functioning autism spectrum disorders (ASD), ADHD, OCD, Tourette, depression, anxiety, and various learning differences.

Individualized instruction is specifically designed to be compatible with each young person’s strengths, talents and abilities to foster intellectual, personal and social growth. The positive and nurturing atmosphere is designed to help students become competent, academically and socially, through a balance of inspirational academic studies and a wide array of extracurricular opportunities.

CLINICAL SERVICES

The individualized program utilizes principles of applied behavior analysis (ABA) and Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) to help students accomplish their goals and meet their needs in a socially acceptable manner, while building upon their unique strengths, talents, and interests.

Social workers meet with students regularly and provide individual therapeutic sessions including in vivo (in the environment), as well as family sessions. Assessment services are also available and may include functional behavior analysis (FBA), behavior support plan, social skills assessments, as well as a treatment summary.

EDUCATION AND ACADEMICS

The Glenholme School

The education program is designed on an individual basis and is compatible with each student’s strengths and skills. School transcripts are utilized to formulate appropriate class schedules and to fulfill credit requirements for graduation. Students are grouped together by their academic ability and course requirements.

Executive function skill development in studying, critical thinking, organization, creative problem solving, cooperative learning, positive self-advocacy, character education and a strategies approach to learning are intuitively integrated to help form more independent and motivated learners.

The school provides English as a Second Language (ESL) to assist students in acquiring the confidence in expressing themselves effectively in English.

Students also have the opportunity to take courses on-line, including AP courses, through Virtual High School (VHS), when appropriate.

The Guidance Office assists students in their post-secondary college and vocational education goals by providing services for the college testing, selection, and application processes, as well as career counseling.

BOARDING LIFE

Glenholme’s therapeutic program is woven into each facet of life at school. It provides an abundance of opportunities for socialization and treatment that positively influence the success of students.

On a former country estate, students reside in cottages that replicate homes with all the basic luxuries of life. With the support of boarding faculty, students learn to make friends and establish healthy relationships, as well as develop skills to manage their frustrations in an appropriate manner. Students are also instructed on personal hygiene and domestic care, fitness, sportsmanship, community involvement and fun.

ARTS, ATHLETICS AND EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

Completing the school experience, students enjoy a range of arts opportunities, athletics and fitness options, community service activities, culinary instruction, equestrian training, leadership lessons, and a wide array of instructional extracurricular activities. Several extracurricular activities include fine arts, performing arts, dance, go-karts, clubs, music, recording studio, ropes course and more.

The visual and performing arts programs are fundamental elements in each student’s daily life at Glenholme. Talents are discovered and developed through courses, choral and drama activities, field trips and frequent exposure to the cultural impacts available in the northeast. The school’s integration of the arts throughout education and boarding environments stimulates a greater understanding of social, emotional, academic, and behavioral aspects for students.

SUMMER PROGRAM

The Glenholme School

During July and August, Glenholme offers a Summer Program which gives students a unique enrichment opportunity within a traditional American boarding school experience.

Morning academic learning, focusing on English and Mathematics, is strengthened with a wide variety of afternoon recreational and instructional activities emphasizing social skill development. Students enjoy opportunities in fine arts, performing arts, music, team sports and athletics, go-karts, community service projects, the equestrian program, and much more.

Students find acceptance in this nurturing environment that pairs a positive living philosophy with a clear set of values to foster enthusiastic participation, improved self-confidence, and success.

The Summer Program commences in early July and concludes in late August.

POST-GRADUATE & TRANSITION PROGRAM

The Glenholme School

The Transition Program provides comprehensive therapeutic services that address varying levels of academic, social and emotional development for post-graduate or foundation year students, ages of 18 to 21. Individuals benefit from a supportive program in which they learn, practice, and master skills essential for success in college, career environments, and social settings.

Participants in the Transition Program have the opportunity to explore college and vocational interests. Job placements, shadowing, and internships with job coaching are available. Young adults may also choose to register for college courses at the local community college. Individuals practice sensible study habits, time management skills, and increase organization through executive function development. In addition, staff support students in developing their independent living skills.

Through guided and self-practice, participants generalize the social, coping, and life skills that are necessary for their future success from the program to their school, work, and leisure settings.

STUDENT SUCCESS

Over the past three years:

  • 100% of college-bound students earned two or more acceptances to competitive colleges and universities.
  • 73% of college-bound students were accepted into their university-of-choice.
  • 90% of all students matriculated to post-secondary college or vocational education.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Glenholme welcomes international students and the diverse backgrounds they bring to campus. The school promotes international and cross-cultural learning, as well as an educational respect for diversity.

Students have come from Bermuda, Brazil, Canada, Cayman Islands, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, Egypt, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Korea, Kuwait, Mexico, Nigeria, Panama, Russian Federation, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Switzerland, Turkey, and the United Kingdom.
